    Could they be called spotty dogs because the movement of the legs is a bit like how Spotty dog moved in the Woodentops (Watch with Mother), a UK television series for children a long time ago ! I was born in 1958 and I used to watch it every day from 1.45 to 2 pm. You're a little too young to know anything about it !
